Goldilocks gardening

Last summer was cool and rainy. This summer is record-setting hot and dry. Remember when seasons were consistent? I can't imagine having to grow food for a living or for sustenance. This almost makes winter gardening appealing--at least then I could shelter the garden with a plastic cover and get lettuce. This heat is making the flowers fall off my peppers, and the tomatoes have seemingly boycotted ripening.
At least the jalapenos and eggplants don't seem to mind:
